Econo-sustainability
The Arco4Web’s fundamental idea is the economic sustainability. Managing many computer systems in the same place and present on shared computers is more economical than managing on computers displaced all over the country. Those solutions will represent the future, thanks to the increase of geographical networks reliability.
There is a further interesting aspect: the eco-sustainability of the project. In fact, servers (those which are used locally and in the customers’ firms) often work the 1-2% of their life time (probably overestimated data).
Concentrating them in the same place we can eliminate an electric machine (and obviously its energy consumption).
Let’s calculate
Let’s calculate
Supposing that the average nominal power of a server is about 300 Watt, supposing that the average real consumption is about 120 Watt per hour, supposing that only a 50% of firms need a server “in loco”, there is a table representing every kind of users.
| # of firms | # of firms with more than 2 users | Saved Watts |
| 100 | 50 | 6.000 |
| 500 | 250 | 30.000 |
| 1.000 | 500 | 60.000 |
| 2.000 | 1.000 | 120.000 |
| 5.000 | 2.500 | 300.000 |
| 10.000 | 5.000 | 600.000 |
| 20.000 | 10.000 | 1.200.000 |
| Sever Average Power | 120 | Watt |
If the firm that provides servers supplies a great number of enterprises, it could use eco-sustainable generational systems, such as the solar photovoltaic arrays or the Cogeneration technology.
